To help keep our website organized, accessible, and searchable, please follow these best practices when naming image files:

Be Descriptive and Relevant

Use meaningful names that explain what’s in the image.

  • Good: engineering-lab-demo.png
  • Avoid: IMG_2048.png

Why? This helps both people and search engines understand your image.

Use Hyphens, Not Spaces or Underscores

Hyphens are easier to read and work better with search engines.

  • Good: student-services-map.png
  • Avoid: student_services_map.png or Student Services Map.png

Use Lowercase Letters Only

Stick to all lowercase letters in your filenames.

  • Good: campus-orientation-guide.jpg
  • Avoid: CampusOrientationGuide.JPG

Why? Some servers treat uppercase and lowercase letters as different files.

Keep It Short and Focused

Short names are easier to scan and manage.

  • Good: career-fair-flyer.jpg
  • Avoid: image-of-the-upcoming-career-fair-in-spring-2025.jpg

Avoid Special Characters and Spaces

Only use letters, numbers, and hyphens. Avoid characters like #, &, %, @, or spaces.

  • Good: fall-2025-convocation.jpg
  • Avoid: Fall Convocation#2025!.jpg
