Fact checking goes above and beyond copyediting or grammatical proofreading. Before your content is submitted for publishing, you must also check it for accuracy. This includes—but is not limited to—spelling, proper abbreviations, and correct data.

You, the author, are responsible for checking:

  • Names of people and their titles; faculty must be identified by their correct titles
  • Cornell graduation year(s); all Cornell alumni must be identified with their graduation year in the correct format
  • Proper names and/or abbreviations of departments, buildings, organizations
  • Titles of courses and publications
  • Numbers associated with phone numbers, dates, and courses
  • Email addresses and contact information
  • Cornell data must be confirmed by Institutional Research and Planning and third-party data must be confirmed and supported with a linked source
