A content steward is a trained staff member
responsible for reviewing and updating
assigned web pages. These individuals know
their unit or program well and are trusted
to
ensure the website's content is accurate,
up-to-date, and accessible.
Responsibilities of a Content Steward
As a content steward, you’re
expected to:
- Review and update assigned pages regularly based on a set schedule (like
every 3, 6, or 12 months).
- Check for accuracy — such as dates,
names, and links.
- Make or request updates if
something is outdated.
- Collaborate with subject matter
experts and your MarCom
liaison.
- Follow accessibility and brand
guidelines.
- Use tools like WordPress, DubBot, and the Governance
Plugin to manage your tasks.
Before you can manage web content on
Cornell SC Johnson College of Business
websites, there are a few key steps you
must complete:
3 Things You Need To Do
- Confirm Your Role: A content
steward is assigned for each page of
the website. This is typically done by
your leadership.
- Complete Training: All stewards
and secondary contacts must complete
the mandatory web steward training
before gaining editing
access.
- Request Website Access: Once
training is complete, you must request
access to edit content on the relevant
websites.
Being a content steward means
helping keep the website strong,
user-friendly, and on-brand. You’re
not
doing it alone—training and support
are
available every step of the way.
